Mental fitness

Where's your head at? When intensity overcomes comfort, what happens to your mindset?

What do you tell yourself? How do you get through it?

Post thoughts to comments.

I've got some answers for that, but I'm not sure whether they're acceptable in print...

When intensity picks up, I tend to break it up into smaller goals, 5 more, 3 at a time, next turn, etc.
Of course there's sometimes a lot of screaming involved too....

"keep going, you can do this!"

One of the great things about CFES is having awesome people there to give support and make you keep moving when the going gets tough.

"It's only pain."

Phase 1 (before work begins): This will be awesome. Michael & Carrie are evil geniuses. I can't wait to try this.
Phase 2 (in the throes of work): What the F***? No human being should be expected to do this. Michael & Carrie are evil. I swear I'm going to quit this place. I should have called in a bomb threat so they'd have to shut down. How can I be getting stronger if all I want to do is puke and rest?
Phase 3 (at the end): That wasn't so bad. Michael & Carrie are awesome. Next time I'll add weight/do it faster.

Whoa!... Is this what the end looks like?... I think I want my mama...

i stop listening to my body, i keep saying "the worst thing that will happen is that i will gas and have to stop"...it took many uncomfortable sessions to get there though...but once i did, it accelerated my progress

I will get into a pain-avoidance rut and find that I have to commit to consciously "selling out" a workout once in a while as a way to recalibrate...

Pain is the sensation of weakness leaving the body baby!

"Pain now or pain later? You choose."

Nohting beats grabbing some floor after a brutal workout and letting those endorphins flood the body. I'm an addict for that natural high. Hard work = good buzz. :)

"If I quit now - I've failed!" "If I quit now, I've failed!" "If I quit now, I've failed!" ...
..."I did it, I won! Next session I have to do it all again. But for now, I won."

I think I want to know Sean's comments. He could use code words. :)
